Changing of the Guard

Changing of the Guard

Do you ever think about how crazy it is that some stuff has just been around so much longer than us, and just gets passed along, human to human?

While sourcing at estate sales, sometimes I feel compelled to take pause. I take a look around, and observe the chaos. I observe human behavior when it comes to acquiring another person's material possessions, likely of someone who has recently passed. It's a bit like a feeding frenzy for all of the contents within someone's home. Likely, a home that very recently held the energy of life and then of sudden grief. In this space we take possession of someone else's valuables. I see this dance as a ceremonious changing of the guard. Whether or not you're a believer in the ghosts of the supernatural, one cannot deny that the objects we leave behind are material ghosts, stuck in this space without transcendence, with entire lives behind them.
